Girls head basketball coach Dave Glenn announced his resignation today after coaching basketball and teaching math for five years at BVNW.  As he leaves at the conclusion of the school year for Milwaukee, Wisc. due to personal reasons, Glenn said he hopes to continue his path as a math teacher and coach, hopefully in a school environment similar to that of BVNW.

“I’ve been so well-received here at Northwest, and I was so fortunate to be given a head coaching position at such a young age and so fortunate for everything that I’ve learned and experienced,” Glenn said. “I am sad to be leaving the school, and I hope the best for the [basketball] program, the girls [on the team]… and I will definitely miss it.”

During his time as a husky, Glenn said he has created great memories and bonds with his students and especially the members of the basketball program. Varsity basketball player freshman Mya Mertz said she believes her coach not only improved the players on the court, but inspired them to continue their passion for the game.

“I’ve known [Glenn] for a while and he has been awesome to me,” Mertz said. “I loved being able to play under him for even one year, and he has built a program that I truly believe in. We were all sad to hear that he was leaving, just like anybody would be, but we are happy for him and his decisions.”

Glenn made significant contributions to the school’s math department and basketball program, Athletic Director Steve Harms said, helping to the department to reach new heights academically and strengthening the athletic program.

“I think Mr. Glenn’s made significant contributions in both areas,” Harms said. “He has been one of our best math teachers, he’s made great relationships with the kids and as a basketball coach, I think he’s put our girl’s basketball program on a very firm foundation. We are very apreciative of all his efforts.”

Although his goodbye is bittersweet, Glenn said his time he spent at BVNW helped to shape his ideas about teaching and keeps him optimistic for the future.

“Basketball is what brought me here, and I will definitely miss that,” Glenn said. “But what I’ve learned from being here is that schools are schools and students are students. I never thought I’d be able to have a better experience than at [the past school I taught at], but being here has made me realize that there are great opportunities and ways to teach any place you go, and I will carry this idea with me as I move to my next school.”

For those bidding goodbye to Glenn at BVNW, Harms said both the students and staff will not forget the impact he made upon the school.

“I think he will be remembered in so many areas,” Harms said. “He’s made great connections in the building, we’ll miss his smile and his humor, he’s made great contributions to our school and he will really be missed.”
