The boys varsity soccer team took on Rockhurst High School in the first game of the Top Dawg soccer tournament yesterday. BVNW claimed a victory, with a final score of  5-1.

Senior Trevor Kerns scored two of the team’s goals, both occurring in the second half of the game. He said he was proud of his performance as an individual and as part of a team.

“I worked hard for those runs,” Kerns said. “I got the ball back after we lost it.”

Head coach Rick Pribyl said the team had a strong performance, and that games against Rockhurst are taken very seriously, if not more than others.

“My sons went to Rockhurst, so any game against them is special,” Pribyl said. “Beating them is a big accomplishment.”

According to Kerns, the team made a strong comeback after some recently tough games.

“We wanted to make a statement after losing the last game of the Fat Cat tournament,” Kerns said. “It was nice to beat Rockhurst.”
