Boys basketball defeated by Lee’s Summit

BVNW competed against Lee’s Summit High School in the semifinals Wednesday. From beginning to end, BVNW trailed behind, resulting in a loss with a final score of 50-66.

Coach Ed Fritz said he believed the team did a poor job of taking care of the ball and moving it.

“We need to not turn the ball over,” Fritz said. “We need to get good shots every time, and we need to do defense a lot better.”

Senior James Atwood said the team struggled with knocking down free throws and doing the small things to get back on defense. He said the team simply didn’t play as hard as they could have.

“[We need to] compete and play tougher and not be scared of the ball,” Atwood said. “We’ve kind of been selfish and not communicating enough.”

Fritz said he hopes the team will do a better job of executing their game plan for their game on Friday.

“We’re really going to have to do a better job of rebounding the basketball and getting good shots,” Fritz said. “I just felt like we’ve been taking steps to get better each day in our games and our practice, and I feel like we just took a step back.”
