BVNW loses to Gardner Edgerton in regional softball game, 4-10

In the regional softball game, BVNW lost to Gardner Edgerton, 4-10, concluding their season.

The BVNW softball team lost 4-10 in their regional game against Gardner Edgerton at 2:30 p.m. on May 19. The regional game concluded the softball season.

Following a scoreless first inning, BVNW trailed Gardner Edgerton, 0-1, in the third inning. Following the conclusion of the fifth inning, BVNW trailed Gardner Edgerton, 4-5, after scoring four runs in the fourth inning.

Head coach Kim White said the team fell behind early in the game but executed key hits in the fourth inning. She said the team’s support was an integral part of the energized fourth inning. She said a couple errors made during the game allowed Gardner Edgerton to make runs, leading to the difference in the game.

“We had one bad inning where we made a couple of errors,” White said. “That’s the nature of softball – one bad inning can be the softball game. But I am so proud of the efforts of these girls and how hard they play. I hate that, for them, that’s how it ends, because they played their guts out. As a coach, all you can ask for is that they give everything they have, and I felt like they gave everything they had and then some today.”

Although they did not win the game, junior Amelia Wyndrum said the team played better during the regional game against Gardner Edgerton than a previous game against them.

“It was a good game,” Wyndrum said. “We fought really hard, and we did a lot better than the last time that we played them. We were a lot more aggressive, and we definitely got a lot more hits in than we did this past season.”

With the conclusion of the softball season, White said she anticipates what the team will accomplish next year.

“I’m excited about the group that [will] return,” White. ‘We had a lot of young kids play a lot of positive innings this year, and that bodes well for the future. I’m excited to get them back on the field a year from now.”
