The boys varsity soccer team lost to St. James Academy in the Senior Night game Thursday, 1-2.

Head coach Rick Pribyl said the team has performed better in the past and did not play as well as they are capable of playing.

“We had moments of greatness,” Pribyl said. “Our passing game was good, most of our defense was good, but obviously we couldn’t find [the shots].”

Senior Brett Gould said players passed the ball well but could have improved with capatitalizing on scoring chances.

“We had possession for most of the game, but we just couldn’t finish,” Gould said.

During halftime, the team held a ceremony recognizing 11 senior players – Gould, Jacob Fetter, Nevin Campin, Jared Crist, Kyle Webber, Rasmus Halvorsen, Ben Taggart, Alex Brewer, Alex Moore, Max Vincent and Noah Fetter. The team also recognized senior managers Colin Cooper and Tyler Brown.

Pribyl said the senior players have been strong leaders of the team this year. He said it is hard for him to believe that the boys soccer season is almost over and that it is the seniors’ last year playing on the team.

“The seniors have been outstanding this year,” Pribyl said. “They’re the heart of the team.”

Gould said it was a special experience to play alongside the other 10 seniors on the team during the Senior Night game.

Pribyl said the players will continue to refine their game and improve their performance heading towards the end of the season.

“We’re still a team in progress, and we’re still going to keep working on everything,” Pribyl said.
