With the announcement of the 2016 All-Eastern Kansas League teams on Friday Nov. 11, BVNW volleyball was awarded with the recognition of six players. Those six players from BVNW trailed only Blue Valley West, with seven.

Seniors Morgan Lewis and Hannah McCarthy were announced to the All-EKL First Team. Seniors Katie Dean, Mya King and Lizzy Young honored with All-EKL Second Team recognition and junior Anna Chalupa earned All-EKL Honorable Mention.

Varsity head coach Molly Haggerty said having six players recognized from Northwest displayed the dedication and work each of them put into volleyball.

I think it says a ton about all the work that they’ve put in,” Haggerty said. “There’s a very high level of volleyball in the Kansas City metro area, and these kids are able to compete amongst the best.”

Lewis said it meant a lot to her to be named to the first team, and it fulfilled the work she had put in over her four years at Northwest.

“[Having six players recognized] shows that we’ve definitely become stronger [as a program],” Lewis said. “To have a strong senior class that everyone started or played [and was honored] is really cool.”
