The Mc10:35-ish

Xicret menus, Xiqing Wang

The Mc10:35 is traditionally an Egg McMuffin with the addition of McDouble burger patties. Named after the dark ages when McDonald’s didn’t serve all-day breakfast, people were expected to get to the restaurant around 10:35 AM to catch the breakfast to lunch changeover. While today, this Mc10:35 could be ordered feasibly at any time of the day, I sacrificed gas money (and probably heart health) so you don’t have to.

While ordering: Most websites describing the Mc10:35 state its price at $3.49, but that may be ancient news due to McDonald’s hike up in prices. Up until now, I have not been to McDonald’s since last year, and I definitely remember ordering a double cheeseburger off of the dollar menu for only a dollar (go figure). It seems like McDonald’s has abandoned its old ways, though, since I found virtually no once-cherished dollar menu items for actually one dollar. The Egg McMuffin sandwich alone is now around $3.49, and the McDouble is around $1.99. $5.48 for a sandwich is completely ridiculous, so in the spirit of frugality, I ordered of of the McPick 2 for $3 Menu. The Egg McMuffin isn’t actually on that particular menu, but the McDouble and the Sausage Biscuit with Egg are, so I McPicked those two items and saved some McChange. Due to my modifications, let’s just call this hack the “Mc10:35-ish.”

Thoughts: I get it. I totally get it. It more or less just tastes like the McDouble sin the pickles, ketchup and onions, except heavier, richer and saltier. The two extra patties and slices of cheese from the McDouble added much-needed girth to the Sausage Biscuit with Egg, and the biscuit and sausage components of the breakfast item contributed a hefty amount of sodium and surprisingly delightful buns. I’ve always thought that McDonald’s burger buns were overly-engineered to the point where all of them taste the same (like a dry, edible sponge). Using the biscuits of the Sausage Biscuit with Egg as the buns worked in this hack’s favor. They added an extra layer of denseness that wouldn’t have been achieved by the cheeseburger buns. Overall, I’d say the Mc10:35-ish was a McSuccess!

Reservations: This sandwich is definitely not for those who can’t tolerate a lot of salt and seasoning in their food. I’m the type of person who salts fries for at least two minutes straight before chowing down and doesn’t think ocean water is that salty, but even I felt this hack went a little overboard with the NaCl.

Aftermath: I chugged directly from a gallon of water and took a nap.

Final verdict: Anyone who can stomach salty, greasy food should try this hack at least once. Would I order this again? No, but I actually don’t regret it as much as I probably should.
