The girls varsity basketball team lost their substate game against Blue Valley North 51-54. This game concludes the season for the Huskies and their run for the State championship.

Senior Mya Mertz said the game started out well, but near the end is where they began to have trouble.

“I think we started out really strong, but the ending obviously didn’t go how we wanted it, but we fought hard in the beginning,” Mertz said.

Head coach Brian Bubalo said the girls played well together, but at the end of the first half is when the game started to lose their control.

“We had control of the game and the last two minutes of the first half were a turning point,” Bubalo said. “They went on a 7-0 run, we gave up some layups, missed some shots and then in the second half I thought we had regained control, but again, we hadn’t; just toward the end of the game, we let it get away from us.”

The Huskies were ahead the entire game until the end of the fourth quarter when BVN was able to make shots and pull a win. Mertz said they played together, then collapsed at the end.
