After defeating the Blue Valley West Jaguars in their last matchup, BVNW played host to the Jaguars of Mill Valley in an EKL matchup on Tuesday night. In a similar fashion, the Huskies came out strong.

BVNW and Mill Valley traded 3-pointers at the beginning game on their opening possessions. While the Jaguars, led by senior Cooper Kaifes, seemed to pose a threat from the arc at the start, it did not take long for the Huskies to start creating shots in the paint.

Junior guard Christian Braun did not hesitate as he continually drove the lane in the first quarter and was able to convert on layups.

After a big performance by his brother to open the game, senior forward Parker Braun got in on the action after coming up with offensive rebounds and putting them back in for a couple of baskets.

For the majority of the quarter, BVNW was able to hold Mill Valley to three points as the Huskies took control defensively with their zone.

After 8 minutes of play, the Huskies had a commanding 24-7 lead over the Jaguars.

The Braun brothers picked off where they left off in the second quarter. Parker was able to get what he wanted offensively. Christian was able to convert on shots from the outside and find Parker and his other teammates for shots. Parker said the team had an easy time finding success offensively.

“We were definitely bigger inside,” Parker said. “We kind of just took advantage of that on the boards. We could penetrate, and find open guys.”

In yet another game, the Huskies went into the locker room with control of the game as they led the Jaguars, 42-14.

After experiencing some foul trouble earlier in the game, senior forward Joe Pleasant came out of the half and put up 8 points in the third quarter. Led by Pleasant, the Huskies were able to build on top of their lead to end the third quarter leading the Jaguars, 54-22.

Though they controlled the game, head coach Ed Fritz said his team could have done certain things better, including eliminating errors on fast breaks in the second half.

“We just got to get to the point where we are ready to play and just a little bit more consistent,” Fritz said.

The fourth quarter saw many bench players make their way onto the court. With a running clock in the fourth, BVNW was able to tack on a few more baskets as they went on to defeat Mill Valley, 62-25. Both Christian and Parker led the Huskies in scoring with 16 points apiece.

With the win, the Huskies stay undefeated in the EKL. BVNW will face Blue Valley on the road on Friday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m.
