How I became a bullet journaling buff

Loving yourself is so punk rock, Eden Kurr

You may have heard of bullet journaling – a growing phenomenon of both millennials and older generations turning to something that has nearly disappeared. In our digitalized world,  the act of journaling and writing things down seems like a waste of time. But in actuality, I have found journaling on a regular basis to be very helpful.

Bullet journaling is best described as a portable planner system combined with a diary, habit tracker, and anything else you want it to be. I use mine for writing down assignments, appointments, and reminders.

There are a lot of different ways to organize your thoughts: Pinterest in particular is a great place to find inspiration for your bullet journal. I draw a monthly calendar and a notes page, then use the next thirty or so pages for individual days. I also track my mood at the bottom of each page.

Bullet journals can also be very useful for maintaining diets, strict schedules, or even managing work projects. Depending on the situation, you can adjust the way you write to your own needs because you design the pages.

That being said, it is possible to buy a pre-designed bullet journal from the official bullet journal website. As for me, however, I bought a small hardcover sketchbook and chose to draw my own page designs. I’ve had good experiences with Moleskine, but many bullet journalers I’ve encountered online prefer the Leuchtturm journals.

The main reason I continue to bullet journal is my tendency to only remember things if I write them down. Whenever I put a reminder or event into my phone, it will eventually pop up and remind me, but putting tasks as events is too tedious for me. I personally prefer to keep a running to-do list for each day.

Regardless of how you want to set it up, I highly recommend bullet journaling. It’s a fun and easy way to keep track of boring, everyday things and be creative and mindful. If you want more information on bullet journaling, the official website is a very helpful resource that includes steps to get started.
